The Creator Bench
A creator desk carries more equipment than any other kind, which makes layout discipline the whole game. The goal is a bench where you can go from writing to recording to editing without moving anything.
Monitor first, everything else after
Put your primary display on an arm and set the top of the panel level with your eyebrows, roughly an arm's length away. Every other decision on the desk follows from where the screen sits.
An arm also buys back the entire footprint a stand would have used — which is where your notebook, tablet or controller now lives.
Treat audio as two systems
Speakers are for the room and for the feel of a mix. Headphones are for detail and for anything with a microphone open. Do not try to make one do both jobs.
Keep the speakers at ear height and angled inward at your listening position, not flat against the wall.
Light for the camera, not just the eyes
A monitor light bar keeps the desk readable without hitting the lens. A separate warm key light at 45 degrees does the work on your face.
If you shoot regularly, mark the light positions on the desk. Repeatability is worth more than perfection.
Build a dock, not a pile
One hub, one cable to the laptop. Drives, ethernet, card reader and display all live permanently on the hub so a shoot day ends with a single connection.
